From Hell
THE LEGEND
In a dimly lit bookshop on a rainy English evening, a renowned collector sits at his desk. Revered within literary circles, his ability to unearth rare texts is legendary, albeit, at a steep price. A small bell above his door announces the arrival of an unmistakably wealthy man. He seeks the “Infernal Codex”, a tome rumoured to hold the secrets of Lucifer. The collector warns the patron against the search, but the promise of wealth is persuasive enough.
After months of searching, the collector presents the Codex to the wealthy man. As the old book exchanges hands, an unsettling feeling creeps over him. Nevertheless, he honours his deal, and watches as the man leaves his bookshop for good.
Out of curiosity, the collector trails the man to a forsaken castle. He watches as the man’s hand hovers over the open pages, poised to spill his blood and release the Devil’s secrets. Driven by courage, the collector intervenes, delivering a swift and fatal blow. The man falls to the ground, limp and lifeless. The collector falls alongside him, horrified by his actions, but grateful he could stop the ritual in time.
Yet a moment later, the body contorts, its flesh ripping away to unveil the unmistakable form of Lucifer. Freed from his human prison, his burning eyes fix upon the collector. The Lord of Hell’s hypnotic scent of Black Incense and Amber fills the room. His voice resonates, offering praise to the collector. To be set free, Lucifer’s mortal body must be killed by an unwitting human. Dread floods through the collector as he comprehends that he was nothing more than a pawn. Lucifer grins and with a wave of his hand, an unholy pact is sealed. He curses the collector to servitude, an eternity of collecting the souls of the damned, or be damned himself.
